Each year we strive to create a unique and elegant Christmas card. We were pleased with our cards but a little embarrassed about how the envelopes looked (confession- my handwriting is not that stellar). We would admire those rare envelopes that displayed handwritten calligraphy. How could we get those stunning envelopes without hiring a calligrapher? Recently, I figured out a way to replicate the look of handwritten calligraphy with my Cricut Explore Air 2!! You do not have to stop with your envelopes; I will show you how to make lovely Christmas cards too.

We made these envelopes in Cricut Design Space.
Measure your envelopes to determine where to place your address and your recipient’s address. Click on the text box on the left hand side menu to create your name. We used a fun font called Babette to make the names stand out. For the addresses we used a font that can be read easily called Abadi MT Condensed Light. The names and the addresses were actually four different text boxes.
If you like, add images to your envelopes by clicking on Images on the left hand side of the menu bar. We found this image when we searched for wreath.
To achieve this pretty green and blue color on the envelopes, I clicked on each element to the right and selected my color. This is also where you’ll want to select that you want to write your letters and image instead of cutting it.
When I click on the wreath image in the right menu bar, I will have many options from which to choose, including color and my writing option.
When you’re happy with your design, click on the Select All button on the top menu. After you have selected all, click on the Attach button on the lower right menu. If you do not attach everything together, the program will move all your fonts and images around. Now it’s time to add the font to your envelope! Add the appropriate color Cricut pen to your machine as shown below.
Congratulations! You have made one envelope! My guess is that you’ll have multiple envelopes to make so the following information will show you how you easily make changes to your existing file. Make sure that everything is still selected by clicking Select All and then instead of clicking Attach, click on Detach on the lower right. Doing this will allow you to edit your text boxes to create an envelope for another family.
So what can you put in these pretty envelopes? Here was our sweet card we made using a mug template. Subscribers to my blog receive this template for free! Installing this template is a piece of cake with Cricut Design Space.
Click on Upload on the left menu and then upload image.
Find your image and click on the level of complexity your image is (on the right). We want all the areas right around the mug to have the checker board pattern.
Click in the white area you want cut, and it will change it to checkerboard.
Now just save this as a cut image and insert it into your Cricut Design Space. Have fun with decorating your mug how you see fit. We added our family picture and free images featured in Cricut Design Space. Attach your embellishments with Tombow scrapbooking glue (my favorite).
Oh my gosh this is so cute! I love how personalized it is and that you get it exactly how you want it!
Thanks! The envelopes come out better when I do not write them myself!
This is so cute!! I wish I had a cricket now!
