Ballet Baby Shower

May 2, 2018 · 6 Comments

My guest of honor for this party was a health-conscious teacher who loved to dance.  This shower reflected her interests and hobbies and since she was having a little girl, a ballet-themed baby shower was perfect!  The guest of honor appreciated that the food was healthy and gluten free to reflect her lifestyle.

The Invitation

Tulle and flowers and lots of pink embellished this very girly invitation.  Isn’t the netting Tu Tu cute?  The flowers were scrapbooking embellishments you can purchase on Amazon.

The Color Scheme

What does a Mama of two boys do when she has the chance to throw a baby shower for a little girl?  She dives right into a pink and girly theme!  We didn’t know there were soooo many shades of pink!  We paired the pinks with gray to form our color scheme.  These sweet printables were found on Etsy here.

The Cake

Do a Google search for ballet shoe templates out of fondant, and use this template to make these ballet shoes.  After we cut out the template, we formed fondant into the shoes and then let them dry on a paper towel roll to get the curve of the shoe.

The guest of honor does not eat gluten so everything had to be gluten free, including this cake.  We used this recipe and it was by far the best gluten free cake recipe that we’ve ever tried!!

Behold the dessert table that we made for my special friend!  Along with the cake, we made a macaron tower.  Fortunately, macarons are gluten free and so yummy!  The paper flowers in the background were made by using this template on Etsy and cutting the paper on my Cricut Explore Air 2.  Watch Cricut Party Perfection on Craftsy to see how you can cut peonies on your Cricut and then assemble them.

Macarons are tricky little cookies to make.  The best video tutorial we’ve seen to learn how to make macarons can be viewed on Craftsy here.  We use Collette Christian’s basic recipe and then add my own flavors to the cookie and the filling.  These macarons were strawberry and raspberry with chocolate ganache.  After assembling the macarons attach them with toothpicks to a fondant-covered styrofoam cone.  Attach a gathered net tutu to the bottom of the cone and fondant or paper flowers to the top of the cone.

The Food

What food do you make for a healthy yoga teacher?  We knew the menu had to be healthy and delicious!

I giggle to myself when I got so many compliments on this table cloth.  It was a simple white table cloth covered with a length of pink lace fabric found on Amazon.

Even the brioche slider buns were gluten free using Thomas Keller’s Cup 4 Cup Flour.  We like using Cup 4 Cup flour because you can use your favorite recipe and just replace the All-Purpose flour with the Cup 4 Cup flour.  To get the P on the slider bun, we used a mini branding tool.

Our guest of honor craved pina coladas; we found a non-alcoholic pina colada iced tea.

These glass cups are recycled Starbucks Frappuccino cups.  The cups look so adorable with the paper straws.

Even the water bottles followed the theme.  Take the commercial label off each bottle and replace it with a pretty label from your party package.

The Flowers

The flower selection for this party was a little bit self-indulgent on my part.  Peonies and hydrangeas happen to be my favorite flowers!  The flowers were in all shades of pink and white.

The Decorations

We bought this frame from Ikea that can be found here.  Then we used gray chalk paint to make it matte gray.  A wooden letter P was painted fuchsia match our pink theme.  This frame was gifted to the guest of honor for her nursery.

Paper rose templates on Etsy were perfect for this party, and we hung them behind the dessert table.  If you have a Cricut Explore Air 2, you can easily get these petals cut in no time!  These flowers are so much fun to make (and easy with the video tutorials included on Etsy).

Make these smaller peonies for a pretty shadow box.  Learn how to make these flowers by watching the Craftsy video called Cricut Party Perfection.  Then you can head over to the Cricut website to find the pearl paper to make these flowers here.

This burlap wreath is always on my door.  When we have a party, we simply switch out the bow and/or decorations to match the theme of the party.

The Entertainment

Each guest wrote a wish for the new baby on a wishing lantern.  Later in the evening, we went outside to release each lantern.  Make sure that you get lanterns that work well and are eco-friendly like these!

The Favors

We ordered gourmet cotton candy and called it Fluffy Tulle Candy.  Everyone raved about this gourmet cotton candy from Sky Candy.  The cotton candy looked so sweet in these mason jars with pink lids.
