Arrange your own flowers using one or two colors from your theme rather than purchasing a pre-made arrangement. For example, my flower choices for this party were hydrangeas and peonies in various shades of pink with white for contrast.

I stripped all the leaves from the stems and cut them 1.5 times the height of the vase. I left a couple of leaves on the hydrangea so that there would be a little bit of greenery. Just make sure that none of the leaves are under water or your water will grow bacteria quickly. When we arrange flowers, we think of bunching them together to make a dome shape. We start in the center and then work around so that we have created the top half of a sphere in flowers.
Sometimes I like to think outside of the box when it comes to choosing vases. I have a large assortment of pink depression glass that is so pretty for a girly shower like this one. I used the plates for serving, but I also used the depression glass as vases for the flowers.
Tips for flower arranging:
- Cut flowers at an angle.
- Try getting different flowers in the same color for a higher end look.
- Soak hydrangea petals in water since they drink from the petal (also cut them on an angle and then again up the stem).
- Group flowers in odd numbers because odd numbers are more appealing to the eye.
- Blow into a rose to open it.
- Check Costco or Trader Joe’s first for less expensive flowers.
- Contact a reputable local florist to order flowers that you couldn’t find elsewhere.
- Turn your bouquet around to ensure it looks great from every angle!
- Use clear hair band ties to keep stems in a bouquet together.
You can use wet floral foam or easy arrangers in your vases to ensure that the flowers stay in place. If you use floral foam, make sure that you presoak the foam for at least 20 minutes. Do not submerge the floral foam but let it sink by itself. You can then cut the foam to the size of your vase.
