We have a new way of celebrating these days! One thing that has not changed is keeping events special for my boys’ birthdays and other celebrations. Keeping celebrations special means thinking outside of the box and being very creative. I am excited to share and guide you through the process of hosting a virtual party. Oh, and did I mention our theme this year was Halloween since my son’s birthday is in October???

The invitation
Guests brave enough to unravel the mummy were able to discover fun party details! The cone in the picture was hung on each invitee’s doorknob. When guests RSVP’d yes, we sent a link to the Zoom meeting and informed them when we’d deliver the box of supplies. We found it was best to deliver the box the night before the party.
The Box
We delivered a mummy box to each participant! I found these inexpensive white boxes at Ikea for 1.99! The boxes come in either white or black, but I couldn’t resist making the white boxes into mummies with the addition of crepe paper! With the help of my Cricut Explore Air, I was able to create each attendee’s name and eyes out of card stock.
Take a look at what was in the each box!
- 3 apples for apple bobbing
- 1 roll of toilet paper for a mummy-making contest
- 1 mini-mummy piñata
- pumpkin spice snack mix
- vanilla and white chocolate mini-mummy cake
- mummy apple juice
- Halloween coloring book and stickers
- virtual-party-instructions
Cupcakes or mini layer cakes fit perfectly into these white cupcake containers and are exactly what I needed for each guest. This way, all of us can enjoy cake together on screen. Wrap juice boxes with crepe paper and attach googly eyes for a festive party beverage. Pumpkin snack mix was a festive snack that smelled amazing.
Make your own mini piñatas by recycling any kind of paper tube and wrapping it in crepe paper. Add googly eyes or any other decorations that you see fit. Stuff your tubes with candy or prizes and add bakers twine and a thin amount of crepe paper (this crepe paper is meant to be broken later during the party to reveal the surprises).
Our group met on Zoom at party time! We invested in the unlimited Zoom plan so that we would have as much time as needed for the party.
The Entertainment
Each guest got one roll of toilet paper and scotch tape and the most imaginative mummy creation won an Amazon gift card. We sent these gift cards via text message. Make sure that you have a phone number for each guest so you can text prizes and game clues to all your guests!
After we awarded the most worthy mummy, we moved onto a Halloween version of charades! Each guest had the opportunity to act out clues like witch, carving a pumpkin, and ghost. The guest who had the highest charade score won an Amazon gift card sent via text message.
We provided apples, and the parents found a “witches cauldron” that was a clean Tupperware or bowl (and water) for some apple bobbing fun! The first guest to take out three apples won another gift card. After the apple bobbing activity, it was time to break the piñatas all together. One, two, three, candy!!
The Food
I have long dreamed of creating a Halloween cake bursting with candy! Not only is the top filled with candy like a Halloween candy bucket, but the inside of the cake is hollowed out and filled with candy. When you cut into the cake, even more candy spills out of the center. The kids already picked out which candy pieces they would claim after we consumed the cake.
Each guests received a mini mummy four layer cake.
The Decorations
I love decorating for a party, but decorating the entire house can be a lot of work!! The good news about a virtual party is that you only have to decorate one space in your house! Set you your computer where you’d like it for your Zoom meeting, and you’ll be able to see what your guests see.
I really enjoyed planning and hosting this virtual event! We definitely put in some work into this party, but overall it was far less work than a traditional party (not to mention how much cleaner my house stayed)! My son was overjoyed after the party which is always the ultimate goal.
